Cole Rise
Cole Rise photographed landscapes, usually flat, he gave the effect that people were floating by having them stand on a tall object and removing it on photoshop, to do this he took a picture with the person stood on the object using a tripod and took the exact same picture again but without the person or object. He then layered the two images on photoshop with the image with the person at the front and then used the rubber tool to delete the object the person is stood on as the layer behind will show up in its place. He says how he gets his idea of floating as he is always thinking of the unknown, he also says how he is scared of falling which may be why he focuses on the idea of levitating so much. He uses large empty spaces as he tries to show how small humans are as a species compared to the earth. Within his images they are usually a dusty colour as he talks about the clouds looking like star dust which has gathered over millions of years, this is why his images lack colour and usually look foggy. I focused my images on the bottom right image where a woman is floating in the middle of a field connected by a wire. I made my images black and white to re create this image.
The first 3 contact sheets consist of images i took to test the lighting and area that was needed to capture my images for edits, once I had done this I began to take my actual photos. To make these edits that were similar to Cole Rises images I photographed people stood on an object, e.g. a chair using a tripod to ensure the camera did not move, I then moved the chair and person and took the photo from the exact same position. I did this several times around the grounds of the building using different lighting and background.

In photoshop i layered 2 images over each other, the empty landscape image and the landscape image containing the person. I put the empty landscape image on the back layer and rubbed away the chair from the front layer giving this levitating effect.
After my first edits i made some development edits, within these i created a shadow on the floor below the person, this gave the person a more powerful floating effect. Also taking the picture from a lower angle makes the subject seem higher and more obvious that they are floating.
