Elijah Gowin was born in dayton, Ohio, he studied photography in university of new Mexico where he received his first MFA, he photographed images which represented his dreams that he had from when he was a child. Gowin won awards such as the john s. guggenheim fellowship in 2008 as well as receiving grants from charlotte street foundation and the puffin foundation and began to publish books in 2008. Gowin is now a professor and chair of department of art and art history at the university of Missouri-Kansas city. In Gowins images he prints off images in bushes and trees and cuts out images of people and puts them in the sky as if they are falling through the image then scans them back onto the computer before displaying them, thats why the images have this black border around them which also gives them an old and vintage effect.

To create my edits i needed to photograph landscapes with trees and sky but also needed pictures of people to cut them out of the photo and layer together.
Edits
Firstly i replaced the background of the with people with a white background and then printed out the land scape images and the pictures of the people, i then roughly cut the people out of the white background and layered them over the top of the landscape images. I placed the people in the land scape in a similar way to Elijah Gowin and scanned them into the computer. I used photoshop to adjust the contrast, curves, levels etc, this made the colours stand out yet retained their vintage rough feel to them. Finally i added a black border to them to match Gowins work and faded it into the image.
