Pol úbeda hervàs is a photographer based in Barcelona, Spain. His latest collection of images is titled 'im not there' such as the images above, he has labeled them this as he said “How do we accept that we are changing? How do we accept to see ourselves in a situation in which we can’t recognize ourselves? I’m not reacting the same way I used to do in some situations. I surprise myself, I don’t recognize myself any more. These photos express this feeling. I keep the shadow in the photo but I erase my body, because I still don’t know who I am. But I keep the shoes to make sure there’s more than a simple shadow.” It seems Hervàs does this to his images as it as he is trying to show he is there but feels lost within himself. He says how he feels that he is no longer that person that he was and only a small fragment remains which he resembles by leaving the shoes within the image as it was more than just a shadow of his past. After research it has been proven that shoes reveal the most about a person, as to their gender, age, whether they were an introvert or extrovert etc, than any other item of clothing which may be the reason why why he has chosen shoes.
Contact Sheet
Whilst taking these photos i had to ensure that i used a tripod to make sure between the person moving in and out of the shot the camera did not change direction at all, this enabled me to create the edits. Also, taking the pictures later at night compared to the day time meant that I had to adjust the shutter speed to let more light in that normal.
Edits
To create these images it was similar to Cole Rise as i used a tripod to take the picture, with and without the person in the frame and used photoshop to delete the legs or the entire person from the image but still leave the shoes and its reflection. For the next shoot i am focusing on creating a shadow with no person stood in the shoes rather than a reflection using the sun and torches or street lamps at night.
